John and Carl started Halmac Roofing in 1981. The economy was pretty bad, but they were determined to start out a new roofing company to serve the North Shore. And so, John with his sheet metal ticket and Carl with his roofing ticket, they opened shop, on Welch street ( where the Pemberton Pub stands today ) specializing in tar and gravel, but pushing into many other areas such as sheet metal, EPDM, and shingle roofing. As with all things, tar and gravel began to see it's end, and with many improvements in other roof technologies they had the foresight to become one of the first companies to forge into torch down membranes.

Carl retired in 2002 and John passed away in 2012; however, their legacy continues. My name is Dan. I'm John's son, and I was lucky enough to learn everything I know about roofing from these two guys. My specialties are torch on and custom sheet metal, but I am adept at shingling, EPDM, and problem solving roofing issues.
